Kohli breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s world record
The legendary batsman scored his 60th half-century of his career during the 63-run innings in the third ODI of the series against Australia today and also completed 12,000 runs. Sachin Tendulkar won the award in 300 innings. Kohli crossed the milestone in the 242nd innings and thus won the award by playing 59 fewer innings than the previous owner Sachin Tendulkar.
Kohli had the honor of crossing this milestone in the shortest time since his debut. And deprived Tendulkar of the record in that respect too.
Kohli crossed the 12,000-run mark in 12 years and 106 days after his debut. Tendulkar, on the other hand, took 13 years and 73 days to cross this mark after his debut in 1989. Kohli also has the distinction of scoring 8,000, 9,000, 10,000 and 11,000 runs in the shortest innings in ODI cricket.
Ricky Ponting is third on the list with 314 innings. And Sangakkara is fourth in the list of those who have scored 12,000 runs in 336 innings. Sri Lanka’s Jayasuriya, meanwhile, entered the record book after playing 379 innings.
